Our Mission
Formed in 1985, the Boothbay Region Food Pantry was started originally as an ecumenical committee from all the churches in the Boothbay Region. Its mission remains today: to prevent the hunger of persons on the Boothbay peninsula (which includes the communities of Edgecomb, Boothbay, Boothbay Harbor and Southport) by operating a food pantry that is staffed entirely by volunteers.
How We Help
Our Food Pantry provides those in need with a four day supply of food with quantities varying by size of family. Vouchers are also provided to be used at our local Hannaford Supermarket to acquire bread, eggs, milk and butter. Perishable and non-perishable items are regularly donated by our local Hannaford Supermarket, and to supplement those donations, additional non-perishable items are purchased by the Pantry using donations and other contributions made by community organizations and members.
The Boothbay Region Food Pantry could not do its work without the generous support of the many individuals and organizations in our community who run food drives, who raise money as well as fresh flowers and produce, and who supply us with an ideal space from which we do our work. Although it is impossible to list everyone, we are particularly grateful to the Congregational Church of Boothbay Harbor for generously sharing their facilities with the Pantry; to Hannaford Supermarket which donates a significant amount of food to us every week; and to both Twin Villages Farm Food Bank and Veggies to Table, who fill our tables with an array of fabulous, nutritious, fresh vegetables, fruit, herbs, and flowers throughout the summer months.
Our Board of Directors
The Boothbay Region Food Pantry is a 501 (c) (3) staffed by up to a twenty four member, volunteer Board of Directors.
